As project manager, we had to type up the updates for this week.
For the stationary team, they have collected a lot of oil pastel crayons but not in a good condition, therefore we decided as a class that we should mould the crayon and make new crayons out of it, into a new shape. I knew this was quite a lot to do for the stationary team, Caitlin and Risca, and therefore I decided to help the team.
It was quite a long process. Firstly the stationary team had to go and buy the equipment that we need to mould it. The first step they needed to do was to categorise the colours, resulting in having around 18 different colours.
Before melting the crayons, there were other things we had to do first for the preparation of the melting. We had to break the crayons into smaller pieces first so it is easier to melt. Me and Caitlin were the one mostly doing this part.

Risca and Caitlin took turns melting the crayons and were in charge of the melting. The whole process involved trial and error, firstly trying to melt the crayons in the microwave, which worked but had a lot of problems such as the container in where we put the crayon in kept melting and spilling everywhere, and also took quite a lot of time to melt. We then tried using this metal cup and putting in there and microwaving it which also didn't work. We moved on to melting it onto the stove using a metal bowl, which thankfully worked and melted the crayons quite fast ! However we found problems that we realised forgot to think about, such as how hard it was to actually take the crayons off the bowl and replace it with the other colours. We then decided to put aluminium foil onto the bowl and so that the crayons melt on the foil and we can easily just replace the foil. This saved us a lot of time which we were thankful about. Risca and Caitlin took turns melting the crayons and were in charge of this part.
After it is melted, we poured it into this ice box that had shapes of the alphabet and snowflakes and let it harden in the fridge for a while. Thankfully, it didn't take that long to harden and therefore the process was quite fast.

After it was hardened, we took the pieces out of the ice box and my other job was to cut the edges of the crayon so that it looks neater and looks more like the shape that it is suppose to be. I then put the crayons into separate containers based on the colour.

Our other project manager Darren helped take photos for us and also made the labels to stick onto the container.
Overall, it was quite a fun small DIY project to do, with a lot of difficulties and challenges that we faced but I think the crayons turned out quite nice, even though some were a little bit messy and able to see other colours on crayons too but hopefully the kids will like it still!

Me and Darren, the project manager, also had a quick meeting on Thursday and Friday again with the group leaders. By the end of the week, the paint will have been collected already from Kansai Sunway branch and the crayons are already done.
